Nuclides

Nuclides are the atoms of a particular element that have a unique combination of neutrons and protons in their nucleus. All nuclides have a specific number of protons and this is what determines the element it is. Nuclides are of immense importance, as they are used to identify elements and understand the properties of material. In addition, they are used in nuclear medicine, nuclear science and nuclear technology, such as in the generation of electricity, the production of medical isotopes and the operation of nuclear power plants. Nuclides can also be used in radiometric dating and radioactive tracing, which are used to study the age and composition of materials.
