Nuclear Matrix
Nuclear matrix is a structural protein scaffold in the nucleus of a cell. It has a role in organizing and stabilizing the chromatin, which are the tightly wound strands of DNA, within the nucleus. It also plays a role in organizing and controlling transcription, which is the process by which genetic information is converted into proteins. Nuclear matrix is important for gene expression and cell differentiation. Its significance in cellular biology has only recently been recognized, and it is now being studied for its potential use in cancer treatments and gene therapy.
