Absorptiometry

Absorptiometry is a medical imaging technique used to measure the absorption of energy by tissues. It is used most commonly to measure bone mineral density, aiding in the diagnosis of osteoporosis and other bone-related diseases. When used to measure the mineral content of bones, a small amount of ionizing radiation is emitted in the form of x-rays, which interact with the bone tissue and cause the release of energy that can be absorbed. This absorbed energy can then be measured, providing information about the bone's mineral density. Absorptiometry is a valuable diagnostic tool for bone health, allowing doctors to detect osteoporosis in its early stages and helping to assess the risk of fracture.
