Psychophysiological Disorders
Psychophysiological disorders refer to physical symptoms resulting from psychological distress. These disorders are often associated with gastrointestinal disturbances, headaches, immune disturbances, and sleep disturbances, as well as more subtle changes in the body. Psychophysiological disorders can have a significant effect on a person’s psychological, behavioral, and physical health, and can also lead to further mental health issues. Treatment focuses on understanding the underlying psychological difficulty and regaining control of the body’s response to stress. Treatment usually involves techniques and interventions such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, relaxation techniques, and biofeedback in order to promote physical, psychological, and emotional well-being.
