Viral Persistence and Latency

Viruses are microscopic organisms composed of genetic material and a protein coat. Viral persistence and latency is a process by which viruses remain in the host cell for a prolonged period of time without causing any symptoms. This process allows viruses to evade the immune system and cause chronic or recurrent infections. It also allows viruses to spread to new hosts when the original infected host is no longer contagious. It has important implications in the development of new therapeutics and strategies to prevent viral infection. Understanding viral persistence and latency is essential for the effective treatment and control of viral diseases.
