Viral Genomics
Viral genomics is the study of the genetic makeup of viruses. It involves the obtaining, analyzing, and understanding of genetic information stored within the virus’s genome. This information can then be used to identify and classify viruses as well as to diagnose and treat certain diseases. Viral genomics is important because it helps us to better understand and combat viral infections, as well as to develop effective vaccines, treatments, and preventative measures. Additionally, it can be used to improve our understanding of how viruses evolve and how they interact with their host organisms, which can lead to new treatments and cures. Viral genomics has become increasingly important in recent years due to the emergence of new and highly contagious diseases such as SARS-CoV-2, the virus causing the current pandemic.
