Systems Biology
Systems Biology is an interdisciplinary field of science which studies the behaviour of complex biological systems. It studies how individual components of a system interact and how changes to one part affect the whole. Systems Biology uses a combination of mathematics, computer science and engineering to model biological systems. This enables researchers to gain deeper insights into biological processes such as gene regulation, ageing and disease. By understanding these complex systems, scientists are able to develop drugs and treatments that are more targeted and effective. Systems Biology also allows us to better understand the intricate relationship between genes, environment, lifestyle and disease, paving the way for more personalised treatments and preventative care.
