Genetics and Genomics Gene Therapy
Gene therapy is a promising medical treatment in which a corrective gene or gene product is delivered to a targeted cell or tissue in order to treat genetic or acquired diseases. It has the potential to revolutionize the treatment of many diseases, such as cancer and inherited genetic disorders, by correcting their underlying genetic cause. Genetic and genomic-based gene therapy uses sophisticated genetic engineering techniques to introduce desired genetic changes in the patient's cells in order to restore normal functioning of the body. Gene therapy is a promising approach to treating diseases in which current therapies are either ineffective or have severe adverse effects. It is also a promising field of research for the development of new treatments for various disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, and muscular dystrophy.
