Genetics and Genomics Epigenetics
Epigenetics is a field of science that investigates how genes are regulated through the addition of chemical marks in the genome. It is a rapidly growing area of research that provides researchers with a greater understanding of the molecular and physiological processes that govern cell behavior, including development, disease, and aging. In general, this branch of genetics focuses on how changes in the environment can alter genetic expression without altering the underlying DNA sequence. In recent years, epigenetics has been linked to a variety of diseases, including cancer, diabetes, and asthma. Furthermore, epigenetic studies are being used to understand the underlying causes of some mental disorders, such as depression and schizophrenia. Beyond its uses in medicine, epigenetic research has potential applications in agriculture, as well as in industries such as food and biotechnology.
