Gene Annotation
Gene annotation is the process of providing additional information about the structure and function of genes and their products. It is a vital step in the understanding of gene and protein function, as well as their interactions with the environment. Gene annotation is used to determine the functional roles of genes, to understand gene-disease relationships, and to assess how genetic changes affect phenotype and health. It can also be used to help diagnose genetic diseases and to provide insight into the evolution of genes. By annotating and cataloging genes, researchers can better understand how they work and how they can be engineered to improve human health.
