Gag Genes

Gag genes are genes that code for structural proteins of retroviruses, such as HIV. These genes play an essential role in the life cycle of the virus, as the proteins they produce are necessary for the assembly and release of infectious viral particles. By understanding how gag genes function, scientists are able to develop antiviral drugs and vaccines to fight against a variety of diseases associated with retroviruses. Additionally, gag genes can also be used in gene therapy to treat other diseases. Gag genes are thus incredibly important in the fight against viral infections and have contributed greatly to the advancement of medical science.
