Gag Genes
Gag genes are genes that code for structural proteins of retroviruses, such as HIV. These genes play an essential role in the life cycle of the virus, as the proteins they produce are necessary for the assembly and release of infectious viral particles. By understanding how gag genes function, scientists are able to develop antiviral drugs and vaccines to fight against a variety of diseases associated with retroviruses.
