Cytogenetics
Cytogenetics is a branch of genetics that uses cellular and molecular techniques to examine the chromosomal and genetic make-up of organisms. It is an important tool for understanding how genes work, as well as for diagnosing, treating and preventing genetic conditions. Cytogenetics is used to identify chromosomal abnormalities, to determine the cause and effects of genetic diseases, and to diagnose various other health conditions. It can also be used in the study of evolution and for detecting gene mutations that cause cancer. Cytogenetics has a wide range of applications, including predicting outcomes of pregnancies, screening for genetic disorders, and providing diagnostic tests for genetic diseases.
