Primate Personality and Individual Differences
Primates, the group of animals that includes humans and our closest relatives, are capable of displaying a range of individual personalities, distinct behavior patterns exhibited consistently over time. Studying these differences between primates can provide insights into the evolutionary development and success of both humans and other primates. For example, scientists can use primate personality and individual differences to better understand how behavior in humans and other primates may be affected by external influences such as genetics and environment. Primate personality and individual differences can also be used to examine the effects of variation in social and ecological contexts on behavior. Finally, primate individual personalities and differences can be used to develop better ways to care for and interact with primates in zoos, sanctuaries, and in the wild.
