Primate Cognition
Primate cognition refers to the mental abilities and information processing of primates. Primates include humans, non-human primates such as monkeys and apes, and prosimian primates such as lemurs and bushbabies. Primate cognition is a field of study that explores their capacity to think, reason, remember, and problem solve. Research in this area has provided insight into how our own species may use information and make decisions. Primate cognition studies can also be used to inform our understanding of the evolution of cognition in the primate lineage and of our own species. Further study of primate cognition could provide important insights into the evolution of our own cognition. This knowledge could be applied to inform conservation efforts and to improve our understanding of how primates interact with their environment.
