Lorisidae

The Lorisidae family of primates consists of the slow lorises and pottos, which are amongst the most endangered of primates. These animals are found in tropical forests in Southeast Asia. They have slender bodies, thick fur and long, slender hands, with a fifth finger called a psuedothumb. They are usually nocturnal, meaning they are active at night, and they feed on insects, fruits and small vertebrates. They use their powerful psuedothumbs to grip onto branches while they feed. The Lorisidae family is important to research into primate behavior and conservation efforts, as they are at risk of extinction due to hunting, habitat destruction and illegal pet trade.
