Lorises and Allies
Lorises and allies are a diverse group of nocturnal and arboreal primates native to India, Sri Lanka, Southeast Asia and parts of Africa. They are adapted to a diet consisting primarily of fruits, flowers, buds and insects. Many species, such as the Slow Loris, are threatened by habitat destruction, poaching and pet trade; thus, Lorises and allies are protected under various conservation initiatives around the world. Lorises and allies can provide insight into genetic, physiological and behavioral adaptations related to primate evolution in a variety of habitats and with a wide range of diets. They can also be kept as pets, providing people the opportunity to experience close interactions with these fascinating animals.
