Hominini
Hominini is a scientific classification that includes all humans, both extinct and extant, and our closest ape relatives. It is a subfamily of the family Hominidae, which includes gorillas, chimpanzees, and orangutans, among others. Hominini includes the genus Homo, which includes modern humans, and earlier species such as Homo erectus and Homo habilis. The study of Hominini is critical to understanding the evolution of human behavior, anatomy, and cognition. Hominini are also of considerable interest to archaeologists, as knowledge of this group helps to explain the emergence and development of civilizations.
