Gorillini
The Gorillini are a subfamily of great apes found in the forests of central and western Africa. They are the largest living primates, with males reaching up to 1.85 meters and weighing up to 200 kilograms. They are the most intelligent of the great apes and have been observed using tools and displaying complex social behaviour. They live in small family groups and have a mainly vegetarian diet. Gorillas are an important species for the study of human evolution and are listed as endangered due to habitat destruction and illegal hunting for bushmeat and pet trade. They are also important for maintaining the health of their ecosystems, as the vegetation and fruit they eat supports biodiversity. Conservation efforts for gorillas include creating protected areas, improving local capacity for monitoring, and providing alternative livelihoods for people living in gorilla habitats.
