Chagas Disease
Chagas Disease, also known as American Trypanosomiasis, is a neglected tropical disease caused by the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma cruzi. It is mainly transmitted to humans by a vector, the triatomine insect, commonly known as "kissing bug". The disease affects millions of people in Latin America, and it is increasingly being seen in other countries. Symptoms can range from flu-like to heart complications, and can even cause sudden death in some cases. Treatment for Chagas Disease is available, and it is also possible to prevent it with the use of insecticides, improved housing, and early diagnosis.
