Callitrichinae
Callitrichinae is a subfamily of New World monkeys found in Central and South America. These small primates are known for their distinctive features, such as prehensile tails, flat nails, and short snouts. They are also far more adept at climbing and leaping than their larger primate relatives. Callitrichinae are an important keystone species in their respective habitats, playing a vital role in maintaining a healthy environment and helping to cycle essential nutrients. As such, they are essential for sustaining diverse ecosystems in the tropical forests of Central and South America. Many species of Callitrichinae, such as marmosets and tamarins, are also kept as pets due to their small size and playful nature.
