Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a chronic condition where the immune system of the body attacks the digestive tract leading to inflammation and tissue damage. IBD comprises two major diseases, Crohn's disease and Ulcerative colitis. Both diseases present similar symptoms like abdominal pain, diarrhea, fatigue, and unintended weight loss. Preventive medicine and care for IBD can help one manage the symptoms and limit the complication of the disease. The primary goal of preventive medicine and care should be to maintain remission of the disease and prevent any relapse. One of the most effective preventive measures of IBD is a healthy diet. A healthy diet will often comprise of fruits and vegetable, lean protein, fat-free dairy products, and whole grains. A diet rich in fiber is also important to help control bowel movements. Stress management is also an essential factor when it comes to preventive medicine and care of IBD. Although stress does not cause IBD, it can, however, lead to flare-ups. Relaxation techniques like meditation and yoga can help alleviate stress and thus reduce inflammation. Medication is also a crucial aspect of preventive medicine and care for IBD. Medication will depend on the type and severity of the disease, but they often comprise of anti-inflammatory drugs and Immunosuppressants. In conclusion, preventive medicine and care can help one manage the symptoms of IBD and prevent flare-ups. A healthy diet, stress management, and medication must all work together to control IBD effectively.
