Aquaponics
Aquaponics is a sustainable farming method that combines aquaculture (fish farming) and hydroponics (growing plants without soil) in a self-contained, closed-loop system. The recirculating water from the aquaculture unit (fish tank) is used to fertilize the hydroponic unit (where the plants are grown), creating a symbiotic relationship. The fertilizer from the fish waste helps the plants to grow, and in turn, the plants help to purify the water for the fish. Aquaponics systems offer a variety of benefits such as greater efficiency, higher yield, and reduced water usage and environmental impact when compared to traditional farming methods. Additionally, aquaponics requires minimal space, has low labor costs, and can be used to sustainably produce a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and fish.
