Carbohydrate Polymers

Carbohydrate polymers, or polysaccharides, are large molecules composed of a chain of monosaccharides (simple sugars) linked together by glycosidic bonds. They are involved in many essential biological functions, like providing energy, aiding in the storage of energy, and being an essential part of the structure of cellular membranes. They play an important role in many industrial processes, such as the production of pharmaceuticals, food additives, and bioplastics. Some examples of carbohydrate polymers are starch, cellulose, and glycogen.
