Plant Genomics
Plant genomics is the study of the genetics of plants at the molecular level. It involves the analysis of the total genetic material (genome) of a plant species, as well as the study of gene expression patterns, by using various advanced techniques. It helps to understand the gene structure and the gene-environment interactions. By finding out the underlying genetic basis of desirable traits in plants, genomics helps to develop improved plant varieties that can tolerate abiotic stresses, pests, and diseases. This knowledge can be effectively used in crop improvement, improving food quality and yield in the long run.
