Organogenesis

Organogenesis is the process of organ formation in the embryonic and fetal development of plants and animals. It involves the differentiation of cells, tissue and organs (such as the heart, liver, kidneys, and lungs) from the mass of undifferentiated cells in the embryo. This process is essential for the development of normal anatomy and, ultimately, for an organism to survive and reproduce. Organogenesis may also occur after birth, as in the formation of teeth, hair, and nails. It is also important in adult wound healing and tissue regeneration. Understanding and manipulating the mechanisms of organogenesis is essential for improving clinical care and treatments.
