Genomics

Genomics is the branch of science that deals with the study of the structure, function and evolution of the genetic material of an organism. It includes the sequencing of an organism's genome (the full set of its genetic material) and the subsequent analysis of the data. It is a rapidly evolving field that uses both experimental and computational approaches to make new discoveries. The knowledge gained from genomics research can be used to improve human health and the quality of life, as well as to understand the workings of evolution. Furthermore, genomics can help us develop new diagnostics, treatments, and cures for many diseases, as well as create more resilient crops and more efficient livestock. Additionally, it can be used to develop new sources of energy, reduce pollution, and to make more efficient use of natural resources. As such, genomics is an essential part of advancing science and technology in the 21st century.
