Wood Science & Technology is an interdisciplinary field of research that seeks to understand the physical, chemical, and biological processes of wood, and how they can be used to produce useful products. It is a highly developed field that utilizes study in many scientific disciplines including compute science, biology, chemistry, engineering, forestry, and materials science. Its practical applications range from bioenergy production, the making of lumber and composite materials, to nanotechnology, and the production of specialty chemicals. Wood Science & Technology is a vital field for the economic and environmental health of the planet, providing renewable energy sources and sustainable production of industrial materials. It is both an important academic and industrial pursuit, as applications of wood science have had a productive and positive impact on the global economy.
