Pollution: Gist to Deal
Pollution, in its broadest sense, is the presence of any substance or form of energy in the environment that has unwanted and potentially harmful effects. It is of major importance to human and ecosystems’ health, and can have long term, far reaching consequences on the environment, human health, and the economy. Pollution can be divided into two main categories: air and water pollution. Air pollution is caused when pollutants such as chemicals, smoke, dust and gases are released into the atmosphere, while water pollution is caused by pollutants entering water bodies such as oceans, lakes or rivers. Pollution can be addressed through a variety of methods, including legislation, international cooperation, public education, habitat restoration and conservation, improved waste management, and use of renewable energy.
