Fossil Wood
Fossil wood is a type of sedimentary rock composed of the remains of ancient trees which have been fossilised over millions of years. It is of great importance to geologists, botanists and palaeontologists as it provides evidence of past vegetation, climate conditions and life forms. Fossil wood also has many practical uses, such as providing an alternate energy source, as a building material, and for the manufacture of artefacts and jewellery. Additionally, it is a popular collector’s item, with various species and types of fossil wood showing differences in appearance and pattern.
