Ecological Niche
An ecological niche is the role and position a species has within its environment, including the interactions it has with other species and its place in the food web. It is the combination of resources that an organism needs to survive, find food, reproduce and ultimately thrive. By understanding the niche of species in an ecosystem, biodiversity can be maximized and conservation efforts be used to ensure that it is not lost. Ecological niches are a vital component to the success of many species, making them important to understand for conservation, environmental management and the maintenance of species.
