Coastal Ecology
Coastal ecology is the study of interactions among organisms and their physical and chemical environment in coastal ecosystems. This includes the study of aquatic and terrestrial habitats, the species and communities that inhabit them, and their food webs. Coastal ecology is important for the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services, such as providing habitat for fish nurseries, protecting shorelines from erosion, and providing clean water and air. Coastal ecology also helps to monitor and mitigate the effects of human activities, such as pollution, coastal development, and global climate change. Understanding coastal ecology is vital to the management of healthy coastal ecosystems.
