Centrioles

Centrioles are tiny cylindrical cellular organelles composed of nine triplet microtubules, arranged in a wheel-like structure and located in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells. They play a major role in the process of cell division by organizing the mitotic and meiotic spindle fibers during cell division, as well as anchoring the basal body of cilia and flagella. Centrioles are essential for the formation of cilia and flagella, which have numerous cellular functions, such as motility and filtering of fluids in the body. As a result, they are critical for many physiological processes and have implications in diseases.
