Biodegradation

Biodegradation is the breakdown of organic material by the action of living organisms, mainly bacteria and fungi. It is a natural process that has been used as a method of waste management for thousands of years. Biodegradation is significant because it helps to degrade pollutants in water, air and soil, and it is a key part of the global carbon cycle. It is also used in many industries to break down pollutants that are created during the manufacturing process, such as in the plastics and petroleum industry. Biodegradation is also used to produce products from waste materials, such as the production of bioplastics from agricultural waste. In addition, biodegradation is an important part of sustainable development and helps to protect the environment.
