Biomaterials
Biomaterials are materials that interact with biological systems to perform or aid in the diagnosis and/or treatment of medical conditions. They can be divided into two categories: 1) artificial or synthetic materials, such as medical implants, scaffolds for tissue engineering, and drug-delivery systems; and 2) natural materials, such as collagen and other biopolymers-based materials, which can be designed to interact with living systems. Biomaterials are used in a variety of medical and healthcare applications, including tissue engineering, dentistry, wound healing, drug delivery, and prosthetics and implants. Their use offers a number of benefits, including improved patient outcomes, reduced healthcare costs, and improved ease of delivery and implantation. As research and development in this field continues to expand, we can look forward to even more innovations in the field of biomaterials and their uses.
