Mastocytosis

Mastocytosis, also known as systemic mastocytosis, is a disorder in which a type of immune cell called mast cells accumulates in organs and tissues of the body. Depending on the severity and the areas affected, mastocytosis can cause various symptoms such as skin rashes, itchy skin, abdominal discomfort, flushing, and bone pain. Total mast cell count is frequently used to diagnose mastocytosis. Treatment options include medications, dietary and lifestyle changes, and supportive therapies. Mastocytosis is a rare condition, affecting an estimated 0.04-0.07% of the population. It is important to diagnose and manage mastocytosis, as untreated cases can lead to severe problems and even death.
