Gerontological Nursing

Gerontological nursing is the specialty of nursing which focuses on promoting healthy and quality of life for older adults. This specialty within the nursing field is focused on providing care for older adults that is specialized to their unique physical and mental health needs. Gerontological nurses may provide care in various settings including hospitals, long-term care facilities, home health care and hospice. Gerontological nursing focuses on an individualized and holistic approach to care, including physical, mental, and spiritual needs. The number of gerontological nurses is increasing as our population ages. These nurses are helping to improve the quality of life for older adults and enabling them to live healthier, happier, and more meaningful lives.
