Eclampsia
Eclampsia is a life-threatening pregnancy complication characterised by seizures. It is thought to be caused by a combination of factors including high blood pressure and reduced blood flow to the placenta. Without timely and appropriate management, eclampsia can lead to severe damage to the mother’s vital organs and can be fatal. Early detection and prevention are key to avoiding serious consequences of eclampsia. Management of eclampsia involves controlling blood pressure, improving blood flow to the placenta, and monitoring the mother and baby throughout the pregnancy. Good pre- and post-natal care can help to prevent eclampsia and reduce the risk of long-term complications, making it an essential component of maternal health.
