Zoothamnium
Zoothamnium is a genus of single-celled protozoan that are found in freshwater and sewage environments. These organisms are highly specialized in their feeding habits and use their cilia to capture and consume other microorganisms. Their presence in water sources is of great significance, as they are important decomposers in aquatic ecosystems and are a major source of food for higher organisms. In addition, some species of Zoothamnium can also be used in wastewater treatment processes to break down organic matter and remove pollutants. Zoothamnium and other protozoans provide an excellent food source for a variety of aquatic animals, and are an integral part of healthy aquatic ecosystems.
