Trypanosoma Vivax

Trypanosoma vivax is an important protozoan parasite that infects both wild and domestic animals such as cattle, goats, and sheep, primarily in Africa and Latin America. This parasite is responsible for a disease called “nagana”, which causes anemia, jaundice, and death. Controlling and preventing the spread of this parasite is critical for the health and productivity of livestock, as well as for human health, as humans can become infected from contact with infected animals. Control strategies include vector control and using drugs to treat both the human and animal hosts. Vaccination of animals is another promising way to control and manage Trypanosoma vivax infections.
