Trichomonas
vaginalis Trichomonas vaginalis is a parasite that infects the vagina and is the most common curable sexually transmitted infection in the United States. Symptoms of infection include vaginal itching or burning, an abnormal vaginal discharge, and pain during intercourse or urination. This infection can be treated with antibiotics and most people get complete relief from symptoms within a few weeks. Untreated infections can increase a person's risk for HIV and can cause fertility problems and other complications. Treatment of sexual partners is important for preventing the spread of infection.
