Spiroplasma

Spiroplasma is a genus of spirochete, a type of gram-negative bacteria. Spiroplasma is an anaerobic, helical-shaped bacteria that is found in both soil and the intestine of certain arthropods. It is a very important microbial genus since it has been used in research studies to understand its potential biotechnological applications. Spiroplasma has been used for the production of useful enzymes, antibiotics, and vaccines. Additionally, it has been found to have potential as a biofertilizer for agricultural purposes. Its ability to metabolize cellulose and fix nitrogen also makes it a promising target for biofuel production. Moreover, due to its unusal helical shape, Spiroplasma has been studied to be used as a biomedical tool in wound healing and drug delivery.
