Scrub Typhus

Scrub typhus is a bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Orientia tsutsugamushi. It is primarily spread through the bite of an infected mite or tick. Symptoms of scrub typhus include fever, headache, body and muscle aches, nausea, and rash. If left untreated, scrub typhus can cause serious complications, including pneumonia, meningitis, and even death. Early diagnosis and treatment is key to successful management. Treatment is typically with antibiotics, and preventive measures include avoiding contact with mites and ticks and wearing appropriate clothing when outdoors. Scrub typhus is an important cause of illness in many tropical and subtropical regions around the world and is an emerging global health concern.
