It acts by blocking an enzyme involved in the production of folate, a B vitamin required for the growth and reproduction of the parasites. Pyrimethamine is an important drug in the world of medicine, as it helps treat and prevent a number of serious and potentially deadly diseases. Its use has been particularly impactful in the developing world, where diseases caused by protozoans are more prevalent.
