Promastigotes

Promastigotes are a promastigote form of a Leishmania parasite. They are a flagellated, elongated form of the parasite and are the primary form found in mammalian hosts. Promastigotes are responsible for the vector-borne transmission of Leishmania infections, which cause serious health conditions such as visceral leishmaniasis and cutaneous leishmaniasis. They are important in the diagnosis of these infections and in the development of treatments and preventative measures. Promastigotes can also be used in laboratory models to better understand the biology of the parasite and to study the potential of developing and evaluating drugs to treat these infections.
