Parasitemia

Parasitemia is the presence of parasites in the blood of a host organism. It is typically an indicator of either a parasitic infection or an inflammatory process. Depending on the kind of parasites present, parasitemia can cause a wide range of symptoms and lead to serious illnesses, such as malaria, sleeping sickness, schistosomiasis, and giardiasis. An accurate diagnosis of parasitemia is critical for timely, effective treatment and improved patient outcomes. Effective treatment consists of drugs, dietary modifications, and lifestyle changes, depending on the type of parasite and the severity of the infection. Diagnostic tests used to detect parasitemia include blood tests, urine tests, and stool examinations.
