Parasite Evolution
Parasite evolution is the process of adaptation of parasites to their ever-changing environment that is constantly interacting with the host. Parasites can often evolve to remain competitive and increase their ability to spread within a host population. Through evolution, parasites can change the transmission route and cause severe clinical symptoms leading to morbidity and even mortality in human hosts. Understanding parasite evolution is key to understanding how diseases spread, developing preventive strategies and treatments for controlling the spread of parasites and parasitic diseases.
