Opisthorchis Viverrini
Opisthorchis viverrini is a species of flatworm parasitic in the liver and bile ducts of humans and other mammals. It is a major cause for biliary and liver diseases, and is a major public health concern in Southeast Asia. Due to the migration of human population, the worm is being increasingly found in other parts of the world. Its diagnosis is challenging and its treatment involves chemotherapy. Hence, it is important to understand its transmission, epidemiology and clinical characteristics for the prevention and control of this parasitic infection.
