Onchocerca Volvulus
Onchocerca volvulus is a parasitic species of worm found in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. It is the primary cause of a serious infection known as River Blindness, which can cause skin lesions, severe itching, and even permanent blindness if left untreated. Onchocerca volvulus can be spread through the bite of an infected blackfly, and the effects of the disease can have a devastating impact on the quality of life for those affected. Fortunately, it is treatable with medications and river blindness can be prevented with health interventions and education. It is important to raise awareness of this condition and the dangers of river blindness, so that individuals living in affected regions can take steps to protect themselves and their families.
