Giardiasis

Giardiasis is an intestinal infection caused by the parasite Giardia lamblia. It is transmitted through contaminated food and water, person-to-person contact, or illness from animals. Symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, bloating, and vomiting. Giardiasis can be treated with antibiotics, but is best prevented by practicing proper hygiene and avoiding contact with contaminated water sources. It is an important water borne disease, with a high prevalence worldwide, particularly in regions where access to clean water is limited. Proper sanitary measures, such as boiling water and handwashing, can help to prevent transmission of the parasite.
