Echinococcosis
Echinococcosis is a parasitic infection caused by the larvae of cestode worms in the genus Echinococcus. It affects humans and animals such as livestock, causing cysts to develop in the internal organs, leading to severe health complications. Humans can become infected by coming into contact with the eggs of the parasite or eating food contaminated by them. The disease is usually treated with drugs and/or surgery, depending on the severity and location of the cysts. Echinococcosis is an important zoonotic disease, which can cause serious health issues if left untreated. Prevention strategies include educating at-risk populations about the disease and its control, improved hygiene practices, and control of animal populations to reduce risk of infection.
